The Archdiocesan Justice and Peace Commission [JPC] was established in 1992 to inspire and motivate the Church in Mumbai to involve itself in social problems concerning justice, peace and development.
Objectives In its preamble JPC defined its objectives as follows: · Identify issues regarding social justice that should be of concern to the Catholic community · Study such issues and advise the Archbishop or his delegate as to the stand the
Church should take in that regard
· Inform and instruct the Catholic community about issues of social concern · Formulate policies for action in the Archdiocese of Mumbai on matters of social justice · Collaborate or dialogue with other bodies and organizations that work for human rights and dignity
Member Body The constituted body comprises representatives of deaneries and bodies of the Archdiocese of Mumbai.
The Archbishop/delegate is the president of the Commission. The chairman and secretary are elected from amongst the members.

The objectives of JPC are fulfilled through the activities of the Documentation, Research and Training Centre [DRTC].
Networking
In its capacity as a promoter of justice and peace, JPC is an active member of several national and international human rights and environmental organisations.
JPC also liaises, networks and collaborates with other organisations and bodies that share its vision and are involved in the mission of building a society that respects the dignity and rights of the human person and upholds the Gospel values of justice and peace for all peoples. |
