Mahila Mukti Manch

The Mahila Mukti Manch was instituted on March 18, 2006, under the aegis of the Federation of Centres for Community Organisation. The purpose is to provide a common platform for grassroots workers of the various Centres for Community Organisation to voice and address issues and concerns that are specific to women.

The vision of the Manch is to build a society where women will stand shoulder to shoulder with men in every sphere of life, taking creative initiatives for building a land of justice and equality for all.

The aims set out for the Manch are:
  • To build a network with women’s groups, centres, organisations and movements, especially those working for social change and transformation
  • To create awareness through critical reflection on the status and role of women in society
  • To help women become free of patriarchal social conditioning so as to reclaim their dignity as women and human persons, and believe in their own capacity to create a free and just human order
  • To enhance leadership qualities in women, empowering them with appropriate skills and knowledge
  • To help women realise the urgency of responding to the context of violence done to women, in order to fulfil their liberative commitment

The Manch has a core committee comprised of representatives from the CCOs. This core committee plans and organises events and programmes for women and families.
